Four Social Scientists from the Faculty of Social Sciences have won research funds worth one hundred and seventy-eight thousand, six hundred and forty-five Ghana cedis (GHC 117,950.00) in total from the 6th KNUST Research Fund Awards (KReF). The four lecturers were among a total of twenty-nine successful applicants from the whole university.
Specifically, Dr. Seth Christopher Yaw won GHC 14,950.00, while Dr. Jacob Novignon won GHC 15,000.00. The others, Dr. Elvis Rescue, and Dr. John Boulard Forkour won the multi-disciplinary award valued at GHC 43,000.00 and GHC 45,000.00 respectively.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Eugenia Amporfu, has congratulated them on their achievement and hoped that they would do more exploits to enhance the visibility of the Faculty on the research map. The utilization of the funds, which is for a period of twelve (12) months, takes effect from October 1, 2021.
KReF was established to enhance applied, problem-solving, interdisciplinary research for the socio-economic development of Ghana and Africa. The Fund is to encourage researchers and students of KNUST to be more innovative in identifying research themes and develop projects with readily implementable output for uptake. The KReF has successfully implemented five funding cycles, funding fifty-seven (57) projects in the past four years.
